a Bragging and a question

My DGD is doing a book report for her accelerated reading class. Now, how they chose the book was different than anything I ever heard. They have been given a reading rank and were told to select books based on that rank. They could pick a book out of a stack, but could not read the back of the book or the insert to see if it interested them. (HUH?). Anyway the book she managed to pick is: All on Fire: William Lloyd Garrison and the Abolition of Slavery. by Henry Mayer.

The book review on Amazon showed me that it was way way way way way above 6th grade level reading. Hey, I think it is above 2nd year college. DGD was saying she had to get the dictionary out while she was reading the introduction. Has anyone out there read this book?

part of me is proud that she can read this level-the other part of me is realy scared that the school system would even have her try. I mean, really, she is only 12. Is she ready for these ideas? From what I read in the review, this particular abolitionist was an extremist in his views-possibly good in many areas. I am planning on trying to find this book. And by the way, it is over 700 pages long. B was over his head too.
