Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Up early

Wanna hear something scary? This is my morning so far: We got up just before 8 a.m. (I know. You’re already thinking, where’s the pod?) I made Ken’s lunch (he’s been trying to take lunch and save money, but he’s so busy in the mornings that he doesn’t make it), made the sauce for Killer Shrimp for dinner so the shrimp can marinate (it’s gonna be good! Tonight I’ll cook it all up, and make pasta and a salad.), unloaded the dishwasher, did the dishes that had accumulated already, and put in my contacts. It’s 8:45 a.m., and I’m at the computer with my breakfast. Eeeeeek.

It’s a little depressing, reading journals and hearing about everyone’s WorldCon plans. We had begun planning to go last year, as we were going to meet up with some British friends and their Canadian friends and have a big to-do. But they all bailed, kinda taking the wind out of our sails in the process. We also planned to go to a motorcycle convention just afterwards, but decided that we can’t afford it, plus Ken didn’t want to ride to NM on the Kawi.

On the bright side, I’ll probably leave early for Virginia so I can spend more time with Sarah. If I went to WorldCon, I’d be in VA less than a week (if I do come back on the 9th, which would be a good idea considering all the GWW stuff I’ll have waiting for me).

But this year’s WorldCon is relatively close by and easy to get to, and so it’s a little sad.

Now it’s noon. The pool guy is here, which makes me feel terribly Californian. (At about 10:30 I suddenly realised he’d be showing up, which is a good thing because it made me put on clothes.) I’ve written about half of a 1K vignette for an erotica story that Teresa and I are co-writing. It’ll be six to seven 1K vignettes. More literary erotica than what I usually write, but fun. I’ve also been doing laundry and so forth. So far, so good.

Well, pooh. Ken has to fly to Portland tomorrow morning. He’d already arranged to go next week, but he’ll have to go this week as well due to some problems. Drat. Still, he’s home on the weekends andit’s better than him being in Korea for months at a time. And we’re discussing him taking a Friday off later this month so we can go to San Diego or something.
