Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Stubborn, with a break for toys

AETW: 763
RD jokes: 326

I meant to get more done on AETW yesterday, but Ken came home and needed to work on the computer (trying to get the cable modem and network to work, etc.). I made dinner (the Killer Shrimp were excellent! except the recipe made less sauce than the restaurant kind, so I may up the oil and butter next time, and leave the strong spices the same), we went shopping (40% off coupon to A Touch of Romance, where we bought a replacement for my favourite vibrator, which I’d finally broken. It’s a curse, I tell you) and checked out some copy places for all the GWW booklets I’ll need to have done. By the time we came home, all we had time for was more computer work and packing for him; I did dishes and read the latest Realms of Fantasy, and made handwritten notes on some new story ideas.

We got up way too early this morning so Ken could get to the airport. I noodled online and paid bills, etc., until my chiro appt, which was scary and yet terribly pleasant (and I can tell it’s helping my sinuses, which is an added bonus that I hadn’t expected). I dropped off both sergers to be repaired, bought a few craft supplies and a birthday present for Ken at Michaels, and came home. Found a message from my parents re: a computer problem, so I called and walked them through it. I’m now updated on e-mails and such, and ready to start writing, one I put my neck in traction for a few minutes and meditate a bit.

Took stuff to Mailboxes Etc., which has a new owner, who’s originally from Brighton, England. Had a lovely chat. Also wrote three jokes and submitted them to Reader’s Digest. They pay well, and the jokes didn’t take much time to write.

Trouble With Homophones: I’ve never had problems with words that sound alike but are spelled different, like “our” and “are”. I joke that I’m the Grammar Psychic—I don’t always know what the rule is, but I know if something’s written correctly. The same goes for spelling. But in the past year or so, I’ve noticed that I’m having a small problem with homophones. I’ll be writing away on some project, and simply type the wrong word. Sometimes I catch it; other times I don’t see it until a re-read. It’s not that I’ve forgotten the difference between “our” and “are”, because I do know it. It’s that the signal’s not getting to my fingers somehow. Very weird.

I went to a Temptations party tonight—like a Tupperware party only with s*x toys (I use the asterisk only to avoid my journal being descended upon by people doing a Google search for the phrase). It was fun; lots of women from the Barony were there, and much amusement was had by all. I ordered a waterproof vibrator and some heat stuff. (No, I’m not going to be more specific in here. Deal.) Had a nice chat with the Baroness on the way home, too.

I got home and talked to Ken for a bit. It’s pretty crazy in Portland right now and he’ll be spending a lot of time up there this month. But there’s the possibility of me going up with him, and maybe spending a weekend so we can do something fun like go to Crater Lake or even Vancouver, BC. Just have to balance it with all that’s going on here. He’ll be taking next Monday or Tuesday off, which will be nice.

Now I’m sleepy, but dammit I really want to finish Chapter 9. Only a few more paragraphs, I think. I will soldier on. And then sleep, blessed sleep.
