Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Just printed “Testing the Waters” and got it prepped to mail. Hopefully there’ll be enough time for Hitchcock’s to review it before the Spirits & Sleuths deadline. Well, hopefully Hitchcock’s will buy it! Let’s go for broke here! :-)

My chiro appt felt really good today, in part because of a great massage focussing on my neck. Ahhhh. Jackie drove me, and I also managed to mail “Testing the Waters” and pick up a bit of food. It’s just after 1 p.m. now., and soon I’ll be diving into some writing, and then some copy editing.

Tomorrow morning we’ll be heading off to the Fabric District in LA to search for houppelande fabric and some fabric for some newcomers. We might swing by an event afterwards for a few hours, if there’s time. We have no plans for tomorrow night, so hopefully we can get caught up on taped TV and maybe a few small house projects. Finally, a non-stressed feeling!

OTOH, we have once again proved that “no” is a word foreign to our vocabulary. At the Baronial Council meeting, the question came up as to whether we as a Barony should do a Stepping-Down presentation as well as a Stepping-Up presentation. I’ve always liked that, and the consensus seemed to be “yes”. So then there were questions about getting prezzies and what’s appropriate and do we have enough time and all that. So I raised my hand said that Darach had had a box into which potential gifts were put throughout the year, so that when a presentation was imminent, we just went to the box and picked out appropriate stuff. Their Excellencies and the Seneschal looked at me as if I were volunteering for the job. But Ken grabbed my hands and held them down, and everybody laughed. He was kidding, so a moment later I started to say that I’d do it, but Medb Renata, the Seneschal, said, “Oh, I think you’ll be busy enough soon.” Eek! What insidious plans did they have for me?!

After the meeting ended I went up to talk to her. Turns out they want to have a Site Coordinator—someone who gets to know the different Parks people around Orange County and arranges sites for various events, rather than having some newbie Event Steward stumble their way in and have to re-invent the wheel each time. I hauled Ken over and we agreed to jointly do it. First of all, I hate contacting new sites—it’s the part of stewarding that I hate most. And second, I’m new to the area, just learning my way around. But, I had already turned in a proposal to create a booklet/flyer to give to potential sites, that explains about the SCA (based on the wonderful one that Baroness Cathryn of Chester did for Pont Alarach in Drachenwald—just in case she’s reading this—it’s wonderful, my dear!). So, I’ll do the paperwork and make follow-up phone calls ‘cause I’m home during the day, and Ken will be the front man.

I also volunteered to be the Largesse Coordinator, too, of course. It’s a low-maintenance type of job.

So, I lied. I didn’t get any writing done today, nor was I anxiety-free. I started stressing about getting the copy editing done in time (what with running off to War for almost a week), so I spent 3.5 hours on that instead. Finished the second article and made good headway into the third, huzzah. Then Ken came home and we ate leftover tacos, and now he’s relaxing and watching TV while I catch up on all the e-mail I haven’t yet looked at. We’ll curl up and watch some of the stuff we taped soon. Although, of course, _now_ I feel like writing. Actually, I feel like trying to plot BH in preparation for NaNoWriMo. Ack. Hey, wait! I have a pen with a light! I can make notes while I watch TV! (We tend to turn off the overhead light in the living room because it glares on the TV. Why it’s angry at the TV, we don’t know…)

Rejection from _Alchemy_ today for “Seeds of Hope”…

Onwards.
