She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Better than clubbing baby seals over the head

“What the Tales Never Mentioned Was That She Had a Daughter”: mailed

Argh. It’s being a day.

Despite a headache, it started out well enough, and I was getting lots of little things crossed off my list. Right now, though, the internet isn’t accessible; it seems to be a problem at the cable company’s end, not the computer's, which is more comforting. I scrubbed the wall in the bedroom and actually scrubbed off some of the plaster; it looks like there’s some mildew on the wall or panelling beneath, so we’ll have to investigate further. Threw out my cardboard shoe rack and another pair of shoes. Wiped down two pairs of shoes; have two more to go. The rest seem fine. Have a pile of workout clothes to wash, and I also want to wipe down the closet walls even though I don’t see any mildew in there.

On the plus side, it’s a pretty day: sunny but cool. I’ve got various windows open to air out the house. I _am_ getting a lot of things done, which is nice. And Ken came home for lunch.

Hours later…just after 5 p.m. actually. I ran some errands and came home to find I had internet access again, so I’ve caught up on some Sage stuff. Still have one article to finish editing, and must do that tonight or get up early tomorrow. (Ick.) Albra’s coming down tomorrow morning to prune my roses and talk gardening and go out to lunch.

I picked up birthday presents for people (don’t want to say who, because then they’ll know what their getting!) at Barnes & Noble, as well as the latest by Kristine Grayson (Kris Rusch, writing romances). I picked up a Fed Ex package that they tried to deliver three times whilst we were away—I’m glad it was still there! It turned out to be my hand-cast oak leaf clasps for the linen cotehardie I made awhile back.More incentive to carefully pick the front trip off the dress and cut a few inches off the front to make it actually fit properly. [wry grin] And I food shopped, which I hate, but it’s done and I have meals planned for the next few nights. Which reminds me—must go put water on for rice. (Tonight is stir-fry veggies over rice, with potstickers.)

The Santa Anas are kicking in, yech. That may explain today’s headache (or at least have contributed to it). It got warm whilst I was shopping, yech. It’s supposed to be in the 80s tomorrow. Major yech. I was driving along with the windows down and “Boys of Summer” blasting on the radio and it _felt_ like the beginning of summer. No no no!

Hah! Got my first short story of 2003 in the mail (e-mail). I’ve got one other to polish and that’ll go out tomorrow. Yay me!
