Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

These Are the Times

Whoops, missed a day. I kept thinking about updating, and even go to the point where I thought I had, but no. Oh well. It was a busy, productive day. Went to WalMart and bought all manner of necessary things, like notebooks and page protectors and sewing pins and a belt for the Dirt Devil. And accordian files for organising tax stuff. Ah, for the simple days of life and the EZ form! And a stopwatch, so I can find out exactly how much time I really do spend writing and editing.

I spent a goodly amount of time doing Sage work yesterday. An author had major changes to his article so I had to make all of those. Grrr. Took me longer to handle the query answers than it did to copy edit the article. But it’s done, and gone, and there are only three articles with queries outstanding right now. One author has not responded at all, despite a reminder e-mail. One sent a new manuscript, which I can’t use, and seems confused by my request for a list of answers. Ah well. I have until Monday. Then I’ll ask for a new journal, and the whole process starts over again.

I have a headache today, so I cancelled my eye appt (which I only made yesterday). I have a lot of little things to do today, too, so it’s for the best.

There. Just did my clean-up of fiction guidelines, and made a clear list of what I need to be doing with my short fiction. What anthos are coming up, what stories need to be sent out (or revised and sent), etc.

Of course, _then_ I checked ralan.com and found more anthos and new guidelines. [bonk head on desk] Then again, two of them might work for two stories I have. They don’t pay a lot, but it could be fun. Have to think about it.

Poor Ken. It’s after 8 and he’s just now heading home. He was on the phone for several hours with a customer who’s techs had totally messed something up.

Calloo callay. Got lots of stuff done today. No actual writing, but a lot of clean-up and a lot of ideas. Ideas don’t make words on the page, though, so I must buckle down next week.

Tomorrow morning we’re picking up our friend Genna and her daughter Brhiannon at LAX. They currently live in NC, but Genna’s Australian, and when Wolfram (husband) gets out of the military in June, they’ll be moving there. So they’re sending Brhiannon there now (to grandparents’) to start school and get settled in. B flies out Monday night, and Genna returns home Tuesday morning. We’re going to go to Angel’s Melee tomorrow and hang out on Sunday (maybe go to Disneyland). Should be fun. I won’t get a lot of stuff done, though, so I may not post again until Monday or Tuesday.

Have a great weekend, all!
