Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Wickedly good

BH: 522

Okay, I lied. I couldn’t sleep! I read for awhile, turned off the light, and couldn’t turn off my brain. Eventually I got up and made some warm milk (which really doesn’t taste good w/o honey, and I have no memory of running out of honey), and noodled about on the web, and the next thing I knew, I was writing. I didn’t hit my 500-word minimum, but close enough. Eventually I did fall asleep. But I didn’t wake up when Ken kissed me goodbye this morning (on my butt, I’ve been told)—the phone jolted me out of sleep.

It was pouring rain, though, which was kinda nice. Except the pool’s getting awfully full… It’s back down to a steady light rain again.

I rescheduled my dentist appt for next week. I still don’t feel 100% and have no interest in going anywhere.

Okay. Did about two and a half hours of copyediting, now that my headache had lessened enough that trying to understand what I was supposed to be doing didn’t put me on the verge of tears. Relaxed and watched a bit of TV. Tried to work through the mail that’s piled up in the In Box. After Ken came home, we did a ton of grocery shopping; hopefully enough to last us through the holiday weekend. We planned dinners for each night, etc. We came home and made baked potatoes topped with chicken, broccoli, cheese, and salsa, and watched “The West Wing” and “Angel”. Cat called before we saw “Angel” (because we’d taped it) and demanded that I call her back after I’d seen it because she was yelling “AAAAAHHH!” a lot. So I did. I’m not quite as freaked out as she; I think ol’ Joss has some tricks up his sleeves that he’s not telling us yet. He’s faked us out on “Buffy” a couple of times already this season, after all.

Good news! I just got an e-mail that the Wicked Little Girls antho wants “What the Tales Never Mentioned Was That She Had a Daughter”! They’re paying only in copies, but given the fun I had writing a less-than-1K story, I can’t complain too much. If nothing else, it did remind me that I _can_ write to theme. Plus the editor “absolutely loved” the story and said it will be a “brilliant addition to the anthology”. So, yay me.
