She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Nifty giftie

Hello, pets. It’s the Sunday evening of a fine weekend. The oven is heating for pizza, the wine is chilled, and “Charmed” will be on in less than half an hour. It should continue to be a fine evening.

When we last saw our intreped crew, they were playing on their computers and watching TV. We flipped more channels and found the last third or so of LOTR, so we watched that, and eventually curled up and slept.

I took really good classes this time; all of them fun and informative. Let’s see… Saturday: Pentathlon for Dummies (very helpful), Copyright in the SCA (taught by the lawyer who handles these issues for the SCA), Chronicler’s Round Table (learned how the Kingdom newsletter is handled here—very different from D’wald), and The Hundred Years’ War (But Who’s Counting?) (taught by Sir Guillaume, who writes the very funny “I Didn’t Expect an Inquisition” column in the Kingdom newsletter). Ken took all different classes, but we regrouped between each session and smooched and stuff. My last class ended a bit early so I got to go outside and watch Ken in the sidesword class and ogle his, um, hose. Then we collected Meg, went back to the hotel to change, and met Max (a guy who’s been coming to sewing nights) and his friend at Olive Garden. Yummm… Lots of breadsticks and salad, and a waiter who would pile on that grated cheese (we gave him a good tip). I had the shrimp and chicken limone, which I’ve had before and is very tasty. We all ended up with leftovers, which we took with us, along with a slice of their chocolate lasagne. Oh, and Ken and I shared a very good bottle of Campogrande Orvieto. (As we’ve been to Orvieto, we always get excited to try wine from there.) We stopped at a grocery store to get champagne, but realised that none of us actually wanted champagne, so we bought milk instead. Went back to the hotel, ate, drank, and rolled our bloated bodies under the covers to sleep off the effects of good food, good wine, and good company.

Today I took Period Camping with Modern Equipment, and History’s Mysteries and Scandals—Period Serial Killers (quite fascinating! There’s story fodder here.). Ken and I were booked to take Letter Writing in the Period Style after lunch, but we unanimously decided to head out and grab lunch on the way home.

The drive to Meg’s was uneventful, and then we packed the bike and headed home, arriving at about 5 p.m. We took advantage of it still being light out by staining all of the uprights for the library bookshelves, as well as the corner shelves. I’ll put a second coat on while Ken’s gone, and then we’ll be ready to start putting things up when he gets home on Friday afternoon.

Oh, yeah, did I mention he was going to be in Boston all week? He needs three days to work there, which means two travel days. Phooey.

But, I’ve got a ton of stuff to keep me busy. Two Sage journals, a novel to revise, Pent docs to write, Monday night sewing, Wednesday night Textile Guild, Thursday night Baronial Council meeting… I did get a lot of e-mail answered and otherwise dealt with, so that’s under control.

Almost forgot to mention! My darling Meglet gave me the coolest giftie—they’re European paperclips (or so she claims—_I_ never saw any of these in Europe) and they’re round. Too incredibly nifty. Laugh gleefully.
