Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Blarg. I’m slow and sleepy today. I didn’t sleep well last night, and woke up early stressing about getting all the GWW announcements out today. (Every Kingdom has a different system, different cost, different requirements, etc.) But, I’ve gotten most of that done now, which feels good.

I had to take Eclipse to the vet for more blood work, and that didn’t go well. She hasn’t wanted to eat much, despite the fact that we’ve tried two different kinds of dry food, two flavours of wet food, tuna for cats, and fresh chicken bits. She seems to be drinking water and she’s certainly peeing fine, but the vet said she’s a little dehydrated, which means the water’s not getting processed. As a result of all of this, she’s lost weight since we picked her up on Tuesday. Plus, her heart murmur sounds worse.

Anyway, he took her back to get the bloodwork, and I sat down and flipped through magazines and tried not to perish in the stuffy heat of the waiting room. A vet tech comes out and announces that Eclipse is devouring the food they gave her. Well, good, but now I feel like I’ve been starving her! They gave me some of the same food to try at home. Then, the vet tech comes back with Eclipse, and says she wigged out and wouldn’t let them take blood (after being totally docile when they weighed her, took her temp, listened to her heart, etc.). We decided to leave her there for a few more hours and they’ll try again. Otherwise we ought to take her in tomorrow, and we’re supposed to be gone all day tomorrow and Sunday. Argh.

As a result of all of this, I’m not getting much else done today. My abs still hurt, and it’s hard to conjure up the energy to exercise. My brain doesn’t want to focus to write.

Had a good chiro/massage this morning, though. I want to be wealthy enough to have my own masseuse. New goal in life.

Ken’s been out all day with Steve and Dennis, and Steve’s two older boys (who are 4 and 6, I think). The kids have their own little ATVs and they’re all off playing. Which is really cool, except that it’s getting to the point where I want Ken home to help me get stuff done.

Dammit, Guy Gavriel Kay’s book of poetry, Beyond This Dark House, is finally out and I can’t afford to buy it. Damn damn a thousand times damn. I usually buy his books the millisecond they hit the stores. I was even able to find them in the UK earlier than they were released in the US. [heavy, pitiful sigh]

Urgh. We’re both so wiped out. Ken got home and pretty much fell over for awhile. He tipped an ATV over on himself and scraped up his leg a bit, but it’s just a little stiff/sore, no broken bones or anything serious. Anyway, we ended up deciding not to go to the Newcomer’s Meeting tonight. We’ve been planning to for weeks, because it’s about A&S, and we wanted to let folks know about sewing nights, and bring a display and whatnot. But we had about 20 minutes to make dinner before we’d have to leave, and neither of us had any energy. I’m feeling guilty, though. I don’t like bailing.

I picked Eclipse up from the vet. She’s slow and a bit groggy, and she’s turning her nose up at the food they gave me. Dammit. We’re altering our weekend plans because we have to make sure she eats, and we have to give her meds twice a day. So, tomorrow Ken’s off to a job fair and I’m going to go to the fabric district with the local Costumer’s Guild to help newcomers buy fabric. Ken will meet us there, and then he and I may go to Meg & Matt’s for an early supper. Instead of spending the night there, though, we’ll come back home, and leave early Sunday morning for Andrés’ & Kate’s wedding. A stupid amount of driving, but Eclipse is a top priority for us. I just got her to eat some food, so, yay.

I finished the grant-level award ribbon I was weaving, huzzah, and soon I’ll warp the loom with a protégé belt. That’s the next project with a definite to-be-finished date.

I’m feeling rambly and having trouble focussing on writing this, so I’ll spare you all more babbling and just end it here. Have a brilliant weekend!
