She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Indulgence

ALNM: 491

A good day so far. Finished reading Barbara Hambly’s _Sisters of the Raven_, which was awesome. I love Hambly’s stuff. I can’t wait to unpack all of the books and do some re-reading—I’m behind on the dragon series because I realised I needed to go back and re-read the earlier ones before I forged ahead (it had been too long between books and I couldn’t remember the characters or earlier situations well). I also checked her website and realised that not only has a new Benjamin January book just come out, but I’m at least a book behind! I don’t have the one dated last year, and it looks as though I missed an earlier one as well. (I’ll check when everything’s unpacked.) So, yay, more new Hambly in which to indulge.

I got a bunch of copy editing done, and I’ve definitely broken through my block on ALNM. The words aren’t racing out, but they’re flowing just fine. I’ve decided to finish Chapter 8 and then take a break from the book, and let Sarah catch up. She’s been working extra hours and has had less time to write. I do need to focus on some short stories; I haven’t written many new ones this year.

Meanwhile, Ken’s been working on the library closet. The secret passageway is now functional. It doesn’t look very secret, because we haven’t built the wardrobe in the garage, but still. He’ll pick up some things tomorrow and also paint baseboards; it’ll certainly be done by the end of the weekend. Then we can move his SCA garb in there and clear the bedroom up a bit. After that, he’ll start working on the bookshelves.

Made Thai shrimp, veggie stir fry, and brown rice for supper. Watched CSI and did some handsewing on the second cushion (couching trim around the trees). At 11 there’s a rerun of the Monk episode we missed last week, so, yay.
