She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

No such thing as too much joy

We were bad today. So very, very bad. See, last night after dinner we wandered into a discount electronics store. We’ve been needing a new TV for awhile now. Since we returned, really. The one we have was one that Ken had pre-Andy, I think, and then they used it, and then they split up and Andy had it, but it was really Ken’s mom’s, so Andy returned it to her when she got married while we were gone, and then Ken’s mom gave it back to us when we got back. (Follow all that?) Somewhere along the line, the remote was lost. So we had to change channels via the VCR, which was fine unless we were taping something. And we couldn’t turn the TV off or on without walking up to it, nor could we adjust volume, or mute it. Oh, and it was 21 inches, and with my bad eyesight, I couldn’t even see stuff very well.

We now have a 36-inch TV. It was a demo model, you see, and it was only $400.

So we had to take apart the TV hutch (which is a used thing from a hotel, and has drawers beneath it—temporary, until we build a full entertainment centre), and we haven’t replaced the shelf, so the living room is almost not habitable (the long sofa is covered with stuff). But the TV works, and the VCR works with it, and the DVD player works on NTSC (but not PAL—but we can watch PAL through the laptop, and the TV has inputs in the front to make that even easier). We have mute, and on/off, and channel changing, and picture-in-picture, and a nice big visible screen, and…

Am I getting too much joy out of this?

Between all that, I finished a draft of the Amenities Booklet, and finalized the BoD version of the site booklet, and answered e-mail. Tonight was Baronial Council, and then we went out to dinner with folks afterwards. We’d already eaten, so we ordered some chocolate-cake-with-ice-cream-center-smothered-in-fudge-sauce confection. Urp.

Tomorrow we’re going to the Orange County Fair with Ken’s mom and her friend Marty. Just keep me away from the weaving displays…
