She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

A pirate's life for me

AETW: Chapter 4 – 12 read, all notes typed

Dangnabbit. The June gloom is back. Yes, I _adore_ June gloom. But we can’t stain the wood for the library shelves w/o the sun.

[chortle] The guy here to fix the pool pump is a Styx fan. He’s thrilled to have found another fan. Heh heh heh.

“Something…maybe I have something in my Wonder Box.” The pool guy just said that as he wandered by the study window. He and Ken are having trouble getting something loose. At least, I hope that’s what they’re doing.

Or wait. Maybe I don’t hope that…

Hold on, now they seem to be chatting about the SCA and Ren Faire.

We ran off and had a date this afternoon. Grabbed Mediterranean food at a little takeaway, and saw “Pirates of the Caribbean”. What a great movie! Action, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, pirates galore, ships, cool costumes, a bimbo who wasn’t great but wasn’t hard on the eyes (a little too skinny/tiny chested for my tastes), explosions, humor. Our only real complaint was that the ending was truly anticlimactic. Too many people went, “Oh, okay. Whatever.” and all of the conflict disappeared. But definitely go see it!

And, for the love of all that’s holy, people, stay ‘til the end. Through the credits. We were the only people in the theatre who did, which means we were the only ones who saw the special bit. _Lots_ of movies have important stuff at the end of the credits. (And even if they don’t, I consider it a courtesy to all of the people who worked on the movie. No, I can’t read every name, but I appreciate everybody’s work, you know?) So, you have been warned.

The sun came out, and I put a coat of stain on one side of the uprights for the library shelves. Ken cut wood. Then his mom, uncle from Texas (who’s a truck driver and shows up randomly, without warning, at least for us), and uncle’s beau (a nice German woman, much younger than uncle), came over. We thought we’d all go out to dinner, so I called the person to whom we’d be giving a ride to Textile Guild and cancelled. Then mom/uncle/beau left instead, right when we should have been leaving for Textile Guild. But we couldn’t go, of course. Instead we hied ourselves to the nearby Chinese buffet. The meat dishes were kinda squidgy this time, but I ate my money’s worth in cream-cheese-filled wontons, which no doubt was my calorie allotment for two days.

Since coming back home, I’ve finished reading and taking notes on what happens in the first 12 chapters of AETW, and now I’m closing in on finishing typing those notes. Luckily I’ve also found notes on stuff coming up, which is useful. There are two places where I need to go back and expand scenes—I obviously get tired on occasion and try to encompass scenes rather than let them play out. In fact, I may scrap most of Chapter 12 and rewrite it. We’ll see. There are more rough spots later on, but it’s still damn good, and I’m still chuffed, and looking forward to finishing it.
