She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

The return of Wicked Red

Yesterday was nice. Got bits and pieces done in the a.m., then talked sewing with some folks for about four hours. Gave one person ideas for the fabric she had, figured out that what another person wanted, based on her description of garb, was middle-class Elizabethan, etc. The Company of Clothiers meeting proved to be a boon, as all three people had “period” patterns that I had notes on. Meanwhile, Ken helped Lasairfhiona finish her corset, and it looks fantastic. Some of the other ladies expressed an interest in corsets, and I kept thinking “noooooo!” We have lots of people interested in cotehardies as well, but I’m leery of having a workshop, based on the corset workshop debacle. OTOH, I’m starting to feel a little burned out about having to re-teach the same things over and over again.

Anyway. Lasairfhiona invited us over for dinner and a movie, so we regrouped after everyone left, then headed out. She made lovely spinach-and-cheese omelets, and we watched “Possession”, which was gorgeous. I read the book years ago and adored it, and was excited when I’d heard they’d made a movie of it. The movie wasn’t perfect, but I greatly enjoyed it; it might have to go on my “to own” list.

I’ve been fighting off a small headache since yesterday afternoon, and even woke up with it today. Tylenol Allergy/Sinus seems to have done the trick, but I’ll need to keep an eye on it and catch it quickly if it starts to resurface. I didn’t get any copy editing done yesterday, so I have to make a massive push today to keep on schedule.

More happy news: The company in Portland has finally found funding for the two weeks of training by Ken, so it looks as though that may actually happen, likely at the end of this month. Income goooood.

And the exterminator is here, to hopefully rid us of ants once and for all. Or at least for the rest of the year. I could live with that. Although I have my doubts, because the ants are coming up from beneath the house, and the guy is spraying around the house and outbuilding, and in the house (yes, the stuff is supposed to be safe for both cats and humans). Unless this stuff lets live ants take poison back to their queen, it won’t work. We’ll wait and see.

I did 2+ hours of copy editing today, which somehow took most of the day. Go figure. I use a stopwatch, so of course I stop it when I get up to potty, to eat, when Ken talks to me, etc. It’s truly amazing how I can “work” for hours but only rack up half that time in actuality. I did also get a decent amount of e-mail answered, although I have more to go. It got backed up again, what with being away for a couple of days.

Sewing was fun tonight. Wicked Red now has a whole crew to accompany her to Pirate Tourney this weekend! (Muirenn, Dawn, Max, Sarah, and Umberto.) I have to buy red fabric and make sashes this week. Along with making a new skirt and chemise (the old ones got eaten in the Bedroom Mildew Attack of last autumn). We also need to dig out all the bits for our sunshade, because the B/B of Gyldenholt aren’t going and thus there won’t be a pavilion for everyone.

More e-mail work, and two more eps of “Angel” rounded out the day.
