Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Thunder-rumble

Sale! (of sorts) The Home at Last folks (the pet adoption book) loved my essay about Eostre.

I’m going to have a Girls’ Night/Michael Praed Fest on Saturday, 9 August (hey, if Ken’s going to be away…!). Invitations going out via e-mail soon (I need to track down a few more addresses). If you don’t get one and want to come, let me know.

We had stellar thunderstorms last night. Bright lightning, great claps of thunder, and the blissful coolness in the air that only rain can bring. Of course, it’s not the rainy season, so this is probably heralding the end of the world. But I enjoyed it immensely.

Spent a good portion of the day copy editing. Exercised as well, yay me, despite the fact that my knee hurt (silly knee). We went to Ken’s old work so he could pick up some manuals and materials he needs for the Korea job. I sat in the car and read, figuring out 40 minutes into the experience that I could sit on the grassy berm in the shade in front of the car. Of course, Ken reappeared 3 minutes later. We stopped at an Office Depot to pick up some 11x17 paper he needed, and I coveted new Palms. The Zire 71 has an amazingly crisp display, but I don’t _need_ a digital camera in my Palm. Do I?

We watched the second episode of a new show tonight, “Nip/Tuck”. It’s…disturbing, and yet somehow compelling. I don’t know if it’ll become one of our regularly watched shows come the fall. Apparently “Keen Eddie” isn’t doing well, phooh. Me, I’m just counting the days until “Tru Calling”, Eliza Dushku’s new series (with paranormal elements!).

Slowly coming out of the writing funk, I think. Still not happy, but I’m missing the writing itself. I’ve just got so much to do this week… I’m still waiting to hear from one person re: BH. The three crits I’ve received have all had extremely helpful information and have been wonderfully thorough—and all three are entirely different. Not sure how to parse that information yet.

It’s a busy week, and I’m feeling a touch stressed, although I know it’ll all work out fine in the end. I want to finish this copy editing job by lunchtime tomorrow, but I don’t _have_ to (it’s the “if you can” date). Tomorrow afternoon we’re helping a friend sew clothing to sell at Pennsic (her regular assistants are unavailable and she’s in a panic). Friday we’ll be heading up to Morgana and Brian’s (hopefully with a stop at Olga’s for scrummy food), and Saturday is Pirate Tourney. Before then, I have to make a new skirt and chemise, and seven sashes, because the ranks of Wicked Red’s crew have suddenly swelled (Maren has agreed to swab the decks, too!). And I’d like to find gold coin candies. I saw them somewhere recently, and even commented to Ken that we should remember this (because they’re not always available year-round). CostPlus, maybe? Grr, argh.
