Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Good friends, good times

Okay, I said I wouldn’t post tonight, but I think a quick review of recent events will help me purge random thoughts from my system and help me sleep.

Got a rejection yesterday from F&SF for “Heaven Has Eyes”. It’ll be off to RoF Monday.

I finished all the copy editing for the Sage job on Friday as well, but I want to do a final read-through the last part before I post it (which I’ll do tomorrow). I have another job waiting for me, too.

We hit traffic on our way north; unsurprising given that we left at 4 p.m. (Ken had a bit of stuff to do to get ready for his trip). We stopped at a Fry’s so he could get converter plugs, and I walked out with a new (to me) Palm Pilot! It’s an M130, which they’ve actually just discontinued. It’s mostly the same as what I’ve got (although functional!) except it has a colour screen and, I believe, better software to sync with Word, etc. I got one that had been bought and returned (in original box, with all paperwork and bits, and full warranty) for almost $50 less than a new one. I need to get a new keyboard, though, and we decided to wait to do a little research on them.

We ate at the ever-wonderful Roma Deli in Thousand Oaks (and giggled at the take-out menu, that said on the cover, “Worth Driving For”. Well, yes!), and got to Morgana and Brian’s at about 8 p.m. Sat and chatted for hours, which was just wonderful.

Pirate Tourney rocked once again. My throat hurts from Arrrr!-ing so much. Ken had a fantastic time fighting rapier. I admit that there wasn’t a lot for non-fighters to do (a problem I’ve seen at a number of events recently). The only contest was Best Eyepatch, which involves working before the event. No Scavenger Hunt, no Best Sea Chanty, no Erotic Fruit Eating, no nuthin’. But I had such a wonderful time hanging out with “the crew” and our Darach friends. I decided that, as lovely as Gyldenholt and her people are, if we had the chance, I’d chose to live back in Ventura County. It’s cooler, there’s less traffic, and I just feel more at home there.

Tomorrow morning I take Ken to the airport. Sigh. Yay for him having work, boo for him having to go so far away and for not being able to get a flight back until the 11th. So I’ll just have to remain busy. I’ll come home and clean the house in preparation for Sunny’s arrival. She’s moving from Washington state to Texas via, well, a brief visit with us. (Just overnight Sunday.) It’ll be good to see her. We met her in Drachenwald; she lived in a nifty house in Belgium. She showed us Brussels, and we played the extended Kill Dr Lucky as well as Save Dr Lucky. She’s bringing the extended DVD of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” for us to watch. We have such cool friends. :-)

The rest of the week will be writing and copy editing and making progress on various other projects. Maybe I’ll rent some movies (or watch ones we’ve got sitting on tape). Thursday I’m off to the Getty again for more wandering about and a costuming lecture. Then Saturday is the Praedfest, and folks are coming from as far as Darach, and it’ll be lots of fun and silliness.

And on that note, I must hie to bed and curl up with my beloved.
