Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

The first duck of spring

Well, booger. That story I wrote and then edited to 500 words? I just checked the guidelines. Max 300 words. This isn’t going to be fun. I’m tempted to start over, rather than keep snipping words here and there. We’ll see. I’ve got a little while to do it.

However, the other antho I want to send something to has a deadline of Monday, so I have to get my ass in gear and finish _that_ story. Max is 2K words, so it’s not scary, just needs to be done (and I know the first draft will be too long, but that’s okay. Some of it is just exploratory rambling right now, as I figure out what the story really is.).

But, ack. I woke up at 7:15 this morning (after going to bed after midnight), my brain a-buzz and a-whirr with all of the things I have to do. I got out of bed at 7:35, defeated. E-mail is down to less than 20 items (although there’s now a To Read folder, for lists that will take a little while to pare through). I’ve got things mostly ready for the Council meeting tonight. I’ve got an updated To Do list. I still feel completely unprepared for life.

Gah! The only way to get the KLOS tickets are at the Universal Studios Hard Rock Café, where the show is being held! Ken says he’ll pick them up for me, but he’s busy, too, and I hate to ask.

Of course, if we buy them, Tani will come through with tickets. If we don’t, she won’t. That is the way of the world. It’s like washing your car to make it rain. [g]

I cleaned out my waist pack, and I thought ya’ll might be amused by the list of what was in it:

* ticket to one evening of Baja Prog shows
* business card for whale watching place
* small notebook (not used on this trip) and pen
* two pairs of sunglasses (one Ken’s)
* binoculars
* health insurance card
* camera memory card
* cork from wine at funky restaurant (to go with the wine bottles in the kitchen garden window)
* tiny box of Altoids
* someone else’s keys, possibly from the UK (uh, oops…)
* 300 pesos (= ~ $30) that Ken and I both forgot I had

Back to editing until my eyeballs bleed.

It must be spring: Ferdinand and Isabella made their first appearance of the year today. Ken threw Shamu at them. They didn’t like that much at all.

Okay. Editing done for the day, which left me braindead for a while. Went to Council meeting, reported on various things, etc. E-mail is down to 11 items.

I edited “The Heist” down to 300 words and sent it to Teresa for a review, in the hopes that it still makes sense.

I should work on the other antho story (deadline of the 15th), but I fear I have no brain left for it. I think it’s time to watch a little TV and then fall over…
