Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

More writing! Another sale! Birthday cards!

ALNM: 1652

Because all we have recorded to watch right now are semi-intellectual things (a 2-part series on the Italian Renaissance and a movie about Charles II), last night we started watched the second season of “Angel”. This is the one they barely showed in the UK, so it’s like a whole new season of “Angel” for us. Kind of exciting. We’ll have to pace ourselves (three new things are recording tonight, so this won’t be hard), so we’ll still have “new” episodes to watch after this season ends. (Curses on you, WB!)

Ah ha! Two birthday cards arrived today (both from family). That’s better. Oh, and Ken gave me one yesterday. He bought it at the car wash place. That was pretty funny. I also got a Christmas card today. Guess I’m not the only one running behind!

It’s 2 p.m., and I’ve just about finished up the other projects I was going to do along with writing. Sigh. I also walked to the 7-11 and bought cheap burritos for lunch, which I may regret later.

6 p.m. Three stories mailed. There are a few others, but I don’t really have markets for them. Two have been to 20-30 places already, and it may be time to trunk them. We’ll see. I’ve finished one scene for ALNM, reviewed the edits Sarah did on the prologue and Chapter 1, and now I’m working on another scene. Slowly but surely…

Hey! Teresa and I just sold a story to Best Women’s Erotica! [high-fives self] I’m ashamed to admit I can’t remember which one we sent—we’d each sent ones individually that were rejected, but the deadline hadn’t passed, so we sent one of our collabs. Teresa handled the submission, and I apparently didn’t write it down anywhere. But a sale! To a prestigious market!

Went to Council, and thence to The Olde Ship, a British pub. About as British as you can get, as it’s run by ex-pat Brits. The food and the service are about what you’d expect, but at least there’s not a blue haze of smoke. I had a pint of Harp and a Cornish pastie with a side of chips. We made fun of the guy who ordered a Foster’s and a hamburger, and put ketchup on his chips. I licked custard off a spoon and embarrassed the guy next to me (whom I call “Dude! My Drinking Buddy!”).

(Sidenote: One thing Sarah and I learned whilst writing ALNM is that neither of us knows how to spell “embarrassed”.)

Right. I did get both scenes written, and both are off to Sarah. It’s time to post this, then curl up and watch “CSI” or something. ‘Night!
