She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Homing

Ken is home! Calloo callay! He got home in the afternoon, and we went to Outback because he was starving and I wanted steak. I’d like to find out if there are any good non-chain steak places in the area. Although we were both well-pleased with the cow we received. (Mine was rare, with bleu cheese melted on it. Mmmmm…)

We spent the evening vegging in front of the TV. An ep of “The Graham Norton Effect” (not as watered down from the British version of the talk show as I expected, which makes me well pleased) and two eps of “Monk”. At some point we walked down to the 7-11 for ice cream. That’s about it. Just enjoying each other, and enjoying being home at the same time.

Today we slept in, and then went to the Westbay Café for breakfast. I’d been there with Teresa when she visited. Alas, my crab omelette was not nearly as good this time; the crab tasted fishy rather than sweet, and the hollandaise sauce was too salty. It wasn’t _bad_, but it wasn’t great. Ken cleaned his plate of chorizo and eggs and was very happy, so we won’t cross the place off the list.

Afterwards, we drove around a neighbourhood of ritzy houses, and even walked through one that was having an open house. For $3.5 million, we could have a huge kitchen, a boat dock, 5 (or was it 6?) bedrooms, a huge Jacuzzi, and outdoor shower, at least 5 bathrooms… Gorgeous, though not quite our style. I’m not sure even we could fill up all the closets (most of the bedrooms had walk-in closets. The master bedroom had two).

Then we swung around home the long way and stopped in the Wild Oats marketplace, because I was curious to see if they had good olives. (Trader Joe’s is remarkably lacking in olives.) I picked up some stuffed with bleu cheese, and we also got a Greek frozen veggie pizza; some chicken sausages with lime, tequila, and garlic; ice cream; and, um, something else. Not a place we’d shop regularly—it’s pricey—but a good funky store to find unique and/or organic items.

Now I’m going to fix the GP, which Cat graciously proofread last night.
