Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

Happy 4th!

GP edits are corrected, and the thing is reprinted and ready to go. Unfortunately, by the time I bothered to go to the copy shop, it was closed. I didn’t realise it closes at 6 on weekends; I guess I’ve only been there during the week!

Then I settled into writing-related business. I made a database to track novel submissions, and targeted two publishers to re-send the WBG query letter (or, to be precise to send the new WBG query letter). Then I transferred my market lists into Excel from Word, although I’m not sure how much I really use them anymore, what with Ralan.com and Erotica-Readers.com. Still, it got me through a pile of guideline printouts, and reminded me of some new markets to try. Finally, I went through the mondo stack of rejection letters that have piled up over the past two months whilst we’ve been travelling, and updated my submissions tracking file. For six stories, I know where to send them; for the rest, I need to do a little more work. I may trunk one or two. That’s work for today.

Ken spent the afternoon catching up on e-mail &tc., but he took advantage of the wireless and stayed in the living room, giving me space to spread out. :-)

We spent the evening catching up on TV: three eps of “CSI: Miami” and the first two of “Nip/Tuck”. The CSI isn’t as good as the original; the acting isn’t as clean and they tend to have way, way too many “As you know, Bob” discussions. But I pretty much watch it for the mystery. Even if, several times, I figured out things early. The writing isn’t as good, I guess.

Today, it’ll be more of the same, a balance of work and relaxation. Just the way days should be. :-)

Five stories mailed (or will go in the mail, for the postal ones, Tuesday). Still a few to go. There are far too few markets for short romance. Phooh.

Murienn’s come over to swim and have dinner and play games, so I have to answer a few e-mails (I’m so far behind on that) and then be sociable. :-)
