Musings About Writing and Stories About Life

She's like the girl in the movie when the Spitfire falls
Like the girl in the picture that he couldn't afford
She's like the girl with the smile in the hospital ward
Like the girl in the novel in the wind on the moors

You all still with me?

I haven’t felt much like posting this week—nothing wrong, just nothing interesting to say. But I owe you all at least a brief recap.

Went to a party at Gillian’s Sunday afternoon, which unsurprisingly held us in thrall until Sunday night. The party’s purpose was Donna’s in Town, and it was great to see her, as well as Gillian, Jenny, and Darla, among others. We watched musical theatre and just hung out for hours. It’s always a fun, informative time at Gillian’s, chatting with industry folks, getting a different perspective about that kind of writing.

I miss musical theatre. I know, I know, I say this on a regular basis. We listened to Les Mis on the way to work today. Ahhhh… And I’m taking Cat to see Mama Mia in January or February, as her birthday present. But I want to see more. More!

My boss and my company parted ways on Monday. It was pretty much a mutual decision, and it didn’t entirely surprise me. Things are, obviously, a bit insane at work right now as a result. That’s about all I can say here.

I got four stories in the mail last night (less than 30 total out there, which is lower than I would like) and outlined much of DFL the day before. It’s hard working without Afalwen, because all my projects are in pieces there, and I stare at the little Palm screen and wonder what I was supposed to be writing about next. I should have DFL back on track this weekend (with the first chapters revised and done, so I can forge ahead), and that should help.

Ken was supposed to leave for Portland yesterday, but had more to do before he left than he realized, so he’s leaving tomorrow.

Friday night I’m going to a birthday party. Saturday I need to run some errands in preparation for a Saturday night Hallowe’en party/Goth Tea, write like a fiend, and then go to the party. Sunday will be all writing, all day, all the time. And maybe a little TV, and a bubble bath. :-)

Ooh, hey, my comp copy of Sex…in Uniform arrived today! This one contains the Sophie Mouette story “Slow Burn.” It’ll be out in December, but is available for pre-order from the usual places (amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, Barnes & Noble, Powells). I’d encourage ya’ll to buy it, but [SWOON] apparently none of you have even bought Sex…at the Sportsclub yet, or if you have, you haven’t told me, and you haven’t written a glowing review, and there is much sadness. [WEEP, WAIL]

Interesting…the US and UK covers are different.
