ST1ON1

with Connie Chung.

From our New York World News Headquarters in New York, here is Connie Chung.

CC: Good afternoon and welcome to ST’s newest and most exciting news interview and information magazine “ST1on1” with me, Connie Chung.

Before I get to our first 1 on 1 interview with our guest, First Lady Laura Bush, we have a developing story in Iraq.

The city of Fallujah is in the midst of a shaky truce. With primitive Sunni spiritual leaders holding the town captive, our troops are on the outskirts of town and have been involved in fierce urban warfare.
ST has an imbed in the Army’s fighting unit in Fallujah and we have her live on the STinterphone LIVE LINE…
Kelly Bright, can you hear me in Fallujah, this is Connie Chung in New York….

KB: Con….. I can hear you. Missile launched grenades are being fired over my fu…ing head this very minute, in this God forsaken Hell hole.

CC: Kelly watch your mouth' were on live. You know your being in Iraq reminds me of Doonsebury last week. Did you see that? A character had his legs blown off.

KB: How could I have seen it? I’m in Mother fu….. Fallujah thanks to you! Oh MY GOD! A grenade just exploded inches away from me.

CC: Ha ha. But it wasn’t funny. It was deeply moving.

KB: What the hell am I doing here?

CC: We’ve lost the line to Iraq. We’ll keep you updated with Sunny there in Fallujah in the weeks and months to come.
Now my interview with First Lady Laura Bush.
Mrs. First Lady, welcome to 1 on 1 with Connie Chung.

LB: It’s my great pleasure to be with you Connie.

CC: Mrs. First Lady, what’s it like to a First Lady during wartime?

LB: Well Connie, we here in the United States have been through a lot, first we had September 11th where Iraqi terrorists invaded our sovereign homeland, then the President, my husband, tired to avert an inevitable war. My job in this never ending war on terror is to keep my husband’s spirits up and try to ease the pain of a hurting nation by comforting the people.

CC: And how do you do that?

LB: Well Connie, we had an Easter egg roll, but this year we did it on the Monday after Easter. I meet with leaders wives at conferences and host White House dinners and meetings.

CC: What’s an average day like for you?

LB: Well, I’m very busy. I get to my office in the White House and my staff has prepared my days schedule. I don’t get a daily Brief like my husband, the President gets , ha ha, so I don’t know about impending attacks that we should, as a people, ignore. Because nothing can be done about them, no matter what they say. But I just follow the directions and the days done.

CC: Do you ever give your husband advice?

LB: No. Never. He has his job and I have mine. He never gives me advice on a menu and I never give him advice on death and destruction for a more peaceful world.

CC: What’s the real George W. Bush like?

LB: Well, I’m afraid Connie that what you see is what you get. He’s a bumbling, plain talking oaf at home just like he is on TV.

CC: Mrs. First Lady, you were in The White House on 9/11. What was that like?

LB: Well I had just gotten to my office in The White House and was trying to determine the new color of the drapes in the Green Room when the Vice President ran in and screamed that we were under attack and to get under the tables. He ran about the room pulling the curtains. He then wet himself and ran out. I knew something wasn’t right. He had never done that before.

CC: Interesting.

LB: My secret service detail were praying in the hall and came running in and tackled me, knocking me to the ground. Everyone was running in every direction. It was an absolute panic. Like on the Titanic or something. Then, after about ten minutes they got off me and marched me into the basement where I sat with Dick Cheney who had rosary beads in his hands that he had taken from his secretary.
He kept muttering that “It didn’t matter now” and had a cheeseburger while crying uncontrollably. It was a side of this great American we seldom see.
Finally by about 4 pm he stopped crying and they removed us to a secret location. Then later, after some questioning, I think they call it a debriefing, they let us go. It was quite a day!

CC: Mrs. First Lady Laura Bush, thank you for being with us today and sharing some of your innermost secrets and thoughts.

LB: It’s my great pleasure to be with you Connie.

CC: And thank you for joining us on ST1on1 with me, Connie Chung. We’ll be back next Tuesday with another edition of ST1on1. And we’ll be here when ever news breaks. I’m Connie Chung. See you later.

STIS!
