STNews presents

This is a Special Report from STNews.

The Second Presidential Debate.

Here, from the campus of George Washington University in St. Louis Missouri, is senior STNews correspondent Connie Chung.

CC: Good evening. Tonight President George Bush and Democratic front runner John Kerry faced off in their second debate.
It seemed like the President was more prepared, energetic, and confident. John Kerry was a little more low key but masterful as he set forth his plans, outlined in the first debate, with a bit more depth.
What do the pundits and what do you say? Bill Pullman, the man who played the President in the film “Independence Day”, joins me now for that side of the story.
Bill.

BP: Thank you Connie. According to an ABC poll tonight Kerry won the debate with 44%, Bush at 41%. Much closer than last time. An NBC poll of 6 undecided voters, it was dead heat 3 to 3. According to Howard Beal at CBS their poll numbers will come out over the weekend.

CC: It’s more like the country isn’t it Bill?

BP: Torn apart by class divides and war?

CC: I was going to say “fifty fifty”.

BP: Connie, here is an interesting collection of descriptive words and phrases used by spinners and network hacks tonight:
On Bush:
Two said “Bush dominated and won the event.” Another said “Bush hit a home run.” He was described as, energetic, having command presence, wired, confident, amped up, defensive, better.
On Kerry:
Kerry was described as having “new lines and a vibrant approach”, and someone said for Kerry it was “I have a plan” night. He was described as, low key, masterful, the man with the plan, commanding, someone you could trust, clear, and best.
I don’t think tonight’s debate is going to nudge any undecided, Connie.

CC: Any word from the “Spin Room”, Bill?

BP: Split decision Connie. Everyone is smiling tonight.

CC: It’s 49% 49% across the country and about the same in Missouri tonight.
From Washington University in St. Louis, I’m Connie Chung, for Bill Pullman, asking you to join us again next Wednesday as we go to Tempe Arizona for the final Presidential debate.
Stay with us for breaking news at anytime, and here for “The Road To Election Day” and “1 on 1”
Mondays and Tuesdays.
Be seeing you.

ST IS!
