I had my conference with Geoff today, which was weird since I haven't put a story through this week. But he read over "Shiny Diner Blues," one of my submission stories and had some really good things to say about it. We also talked about his novel Was (which, in my opinion, is brilliant, and you should all buy a copy), and the Queen of England, and writing mainstream fiction, and Neil Gaiman as a cub reporter. We actually talked for an hour, since the schedule got a little screwed up, and Cathy, who was next, didn't come until 4:30.

Afterward, I got snagged by Lena, Trent and Brendan, who were off to see the new Powerpuff Girls movie. I ran upstairs to drop off my stuff, ran into Janet and recruited her too, then we set off for Lot 91 and Trent's car. The theater was in Lansing, a bit of a drive away, and we got there 15 minutes after it was supposed to start. This after driving in a car with no air conditioning and a heat index in the high nineties, as well as turning around a few times. So instead, we watched Men in Black II, which was released today. It was incredibly funny; my sides literally hurt after it was over. It had some returning characters, as well as a few surprise cameos.

Then it was back home to get some dinner and do critiques for tonight. Since Janet has a TV, some of us watched the new episode of South Park, which was perhaps the most disgusting and inappropriate episode yet, and that's really saying something.

I started working on "China Life" last night, and got about a page and a half done before I was too tired to look at the screen anymore. I'm going to try and get a little more done tonight, but it won't go into the basket this week, which kind of sucks, since I wanted to have one story for each instructor to see. Ah well.
