Today was an interesting day in class. Geoff is still instructing the sessions, but Patrick Nielsen Hayden, who arrived yesterday, is now sitting in on the sessions as well. It's strange having two of the instructors here at the same time, and will be even weirder on Sunday, when Tim Powers and Karen Joy Fowler show up. We'll have three instructors here (since Geoff will be leaving on Saturday).

After the session today, Geoff started a discussion on literature and entertainment, and the responsibilities that must be held if you use archetypal myth figures in fiction, using Star Wars as an example. Satre was brought up, as well as Foucault, and after a while my head just hurt. I'm not up on my philosophy, and I tend not to think about it, but some really good points were made, like the demonization of our enemies, and the perception of evil, and the way stories are told that express the beliefs of the author. After a half hour, though, I was ready to get out of there and eat some lunch.

Tonight, since the caf is closing at 5 PM for some reason, we're all getting together to go to the Mongolian Barbecue, then drive out to Lansing and watch the fireworks. It'll be nice to have something that everyone can do together.

But before that, I need to get some critiquing done, as well as some writing, so I'm off.
