I knew it couldn't last.

I woke up around 10 a.m., since I knew I wasn't going to go into work in the morning because of the icy roads, and watched a little bit of Regis and Kelly and started to boil some water for tea, when the power went out again at 10:15. I had an appointment with my dentist at noon for a cleaning, so I went ahead and got cleaned up; I shaved and showered by candlelight. Luckily the sun was out and doing a bang-up job of melting and drying the roads, as well as lighting the interior of my apartment even if the blinds were drawn.

Trees are down everywhere. Limbs scatter the sides of roads and branches reach out to scrape your car as you drive by. The city's a mess. They're saying it's the worst ice storm in North Carolina ever. As of this morning, a million and a half people were without power. If mine's not back up by the time I get home from work, I'll head over to my parent's house in Fuquay. I've slept through a night of freezing cold already, and don't want to do it again, especially tonight when the temps are only supposed to get into the teens.

Bloody weather.

On a good note, I did get "King of the Traffic Lights" finished up last night and sent off to Windhover. They rejected my story "Helen of the Mist" while I was still at NCSU, but I hope I've gotten a little better since then. It won't pay if it does get accepted, but it'll be a nice credit. Wish me luck.
