It's 1 a.m., and I just finished a story.

After doing some errands this afternoon, Janet and I headed over to Caribou Coffee in Cary, bought some chais (hers hot, mine iced) and then I whipped out the iBook and headphones. Janet read while I typed -- finishing the Terry Pratchett book she'd brought, a new copy of The Independent Weekly, and the latest issue of Kiss Machine that I got at WisCon. After two hours, she was out of stuff to read, and started staring at me and telling me she was bored, so I finished up the section I was working on, and we left. In that two hours, I got past a prickly spot in my story, a spot that had been giving me trouble for at least a month.

Tonight, after a meal of bourbon-marinated salmon (which inspired today's mythologism), and after I finished up my interview with Daniel Wallace and submitted it to Strange Horizons, I got back on the story and wrote it to the end. 1100 words today, and "Stuck" is done.

Yay!

Despite my objections about cell phones -- or more accurately, about the people who use them -- I want to get a cell phone before I go back to classes in a few weeks. There were times last semester when it would have been really handy, and there have been enough of these times that it feels necessary now.

AT&T Wireless looks pretty good, as does Sprint, but I'd like some first-hand information. Janet's already had some bad experiences with Verizon, so we won't be going with them. What providers do you use? Which ones are good or bad? I'll be doing some research into the rates and so forth, but it would be extremely helpful to find out your experiences regarding customer service and/or support. Please let me know in the comments.

Thanks.
