Okay, one full year under my belt as a CSUN employee. It's been good to get back on our feet financially after being unemployed for a while.

But I don't know how much longer I can take cubicluarity. Same dull environment day in and day out. I loath it. I hate it. It drives me nuts thinking about it.

So, always the one who says "don't complain, do something about it" I am living by my own advice now. I have signed up for a "starting your own business" series of classes at Learning Tree University, just down the road. These will meet for three hours for the next four Mondays, starting on July 7th. This is to get me going, mostly, and isn't very expensive and is rather convenient.

I have also written to the the guy at UCLA who might have something in a lab there, however no word on that yet -- he's probably waiting to hear on grants. I have also read two books that Shelley got for me: What Should I Do with My Life? and Working Identity: Unconventional Strategies for Reinventing Your Career. The biggest lessons from them is that if you're not happy, then do something or you will regret it later.

I have delayed in this doing of things somewhat, in all honesty, because of my belief that it would be unfair to my employers to not give them a full year. But that date has now passed, and I consider myself a free agent. One thing that would keep me here is the perq of taking free classes, and CSUN has a GIS certificate program that I'm keen to start in the fall, to become significantly more valuable in the digital archaeology arena.

So I'm not jumping out of CSUN with no parachute at this point, but don't be surprised if this doesn't turn out to be my career. I don't think I could take that.
