We woke this morning to the sounds of a persistent helicopter buzzing the area. Didn't think much of it, except that it's annoying. Shelley got to the bottom of our cul-de-sac road, though, and called back to warn me of the presence of a SWAT truck and police cars.

When I left ten minutes later, I found that they had set up shop just a few houses down the road, in the middle of the street. They have it all blocked off with cop cars and the SWAT van. Apparently there is a situation of some sort in the house there that has just been extensively remodelled over the past year. Don't know when or whether I'll be able to get to work today.

Know what SWAT stands for? Shelley recently learned it directly from the source when she attended the Burbank PD community outreach program: several weirdos armed to the teeth.
