Last year's bike mileage did not top 2003's, coming in at only 2495 (odometer now at 8482.3), but that's mostly because I was such a slug during paternity leave and then again in December.

Back on the daily commute today, however, after buying a pair of new wheels on Saturday to replace the aging ones I've been using. Apparently the OEM wheels on the bike suffered from a lack of quality, and the rear one has been going out of true and breaking spokes every six weeks or so.

That's not a good situation, so rather than have to continue to worry about it happening on the road and/or getting it to the shop for correction so often, obtaining new wheels seemed the wisest course of action, especially when they can easily install the same gear cog cassette and not require a new purchasee of that component as well.

The bike shop said the same level of wheels now have a different spoke arrangement, which does look cool. Instead of numerous spokes regularly spaced all around hub and rim, these wheels have only about a third the other's total, mounted in pairs.

(And you thought this entry would be about a new car...)
