I got out of the apartment today. Went to ASU and had lunch with Carl (mmm...hummus...falafel...), gossiped with a bunch of people about impending changes to the Physics & Astronomy Dept. , ran into one of my former community college students who is doing research in the Physics Dept. this summer...all good.

However, I realize now that I didn't purchase Olympos today. Tomorrow, it will be mine.

I take it for granted that everyone has heard about this, but in case you haven't, the Deep Impact spacecraft will crash into Comet Tempel 1 on July 4 at about 5:52 UT, which translates to evening of July 3 for the Western US. The comet will be near Spica, the brightest star in Virgo. Before impact, the comet will be too faint to be seen with the naked eye. After impact, who knows what we'll see? It may well get bright enough to be seen by the naked eye in truly dark conditions.
