Okay, so there's still an impressive (for here) blanket of snow over everything, but the sunlight was so welcoming and the sunroom was so warm that I gave in and started some seeds. Got some tomato plants going (which makes no sense; too early) and some basil - lots of basil - and oregano. My hope is that the spices will make the sunroom fragrant. We'll see. I really need some brassicas!

I love starting seeds. I love the promise of it; and especially this time of year, I love the way watching them grow carries you forward into spring. We could actually get a very decent start on our growing season this year. That would be fun; I'd like to see what we could grow if we were working at it for real. (I always have these impulses in the spring, and then by July my interest has waned and the garden is weed-infested . . . but maybe this year will be different.)

I also got air in my mountain bike tires and checked to make sure the batteries in my blinky lights were still good, because Diane and I are going to a concert of 17th century English and Dutch music concerned with the North Sea tonight (how's that for a niche concert?). The concert is at a church downtown, and, as is my wont, I'm riding my bike to it. Should be fun!

So, should the weather ever decide to stop being winter, I'm ready . . .
