Not at all surprisingly, Randy has posted an eloquent account on his blog. I"ve never been to New Orleans, and now, I feel, I can never go. Whatever they build to replace it won't really be New Orleans, it will be some newer, cheaper, shoddily-constructed imitation . . .

I know that sounds selfish. The human suffering is just way more than I can comprehend. 20,000 people packed into a football stadium, and about to be moved to another football stadium . . . the looting, the bodies floating by . . . how can the mind take it in? I feel we have lost a jewel, and the people who remain there have turned sour because they have lost hope.

More to say, but my thoughts are churning and the words won't coalesce . . .
