Well, the big news today, as far as I'm concerned, is that I actually managed to go for a pretty long bike ride - somewhere around 7 miles, I'd guess. I'm still wearing the weird ortho bootie, so I couldn't ride my road bike (because it has toe clips and my toes wouldn't fit). But I rode the mountain bike. Probably just as well; the gearing on the mountain bike is a little more forgiving of bad conditioning, which is certainly what I have at this point . . . The Devonshire hill was quite the effort.

Nonetheless, it was wonderful to be turning the pedals. This evening, I find that I'm pleasantly tired in the way that only exercise can make me. I'm almost done with school, too, so with any luck, if my foot doesn't hurt tonight (I find now that overexertion causes me to have pain when I go to bed), I can make a few more excursions before the boot comes off. Heck, maybe I'll try swimming again tomorrow. (I went swimming the week before last, and oddly enough, even though I didn't kick and it's not like I go very fast, the pressure of the water pushing my toe in the direction in which it broke was too painful. Not at the time - when I went to bed. So I haven't tried that since.)

William goes home tomorrow, I think - I haven't heard from Louise today, so she may have had to spend an unanticipated extra night at her aunt's house - but barring that, the dog and I will head out in the morning. Tonight I took him and Wally for a run at the local high school. William has certainly rediscovered his legs; he was full of beans and bottle tops, running to and fro and just generally not listening too well. At one point, while I was trying to get him back, Wally took advantage of my preoccupation to find something to roll in. When I finally got him to stop, I could see dark blotches on his neck, which I knew wasn't good. I didn't realize how bad it was until he trotted up - and about fifty paces out, I could smell the unmistakable odor of Dead Something . . . he came right in the door and into the bathtub when we got home. I don't think I got it all even still. Yuck!

Chas is coming over for dinner tomorrow night, so I have flank steak marinating in lime juice, olive oil, garlic, cilantro, and tequila. Gonna make fajitas, I guess. And nachos; I have the beans cooking now, and I guess I better go mash them. It's nearly 10 pm and my pleasant fatigue is quickly turning to exhaustion . . .
