Today was Be a Tourist in Your Own Town Day in these parts . . . for a buck, you could get a "passport" that let you in to various museums and events and such across the area. Emil and I went to the Michigan Historical Museum this afternoon (there was a photography exhibit I've been wanting to see), and then later on Louise and I went to a - get this - wine tasting at a vintner in Haslett. (Our passports entitled us to five tastings and free cheese and crackers.) It was really fun!

And there was much, much more to be done; we didn't make it to Old Town for the salsa cook-off and Artists' Market; I didn't get to the East Lansing Family Aquatic Center (one possibility was to use my passport to spend the day lying about the pool . . . ); we never made it to any of the events or venues on the MSU campus; didn't get to see the coffee roasting at Paramount Coffee . . . Partly this was because there was a whole lot to do so it was impossible to do everything, and partly it happened because it was hard to find publicity in advance of the event; I knew it was happening but until we got our passports it wasn't clear what all there would be to do. Next year we'll buy the passports in advance so we can plan better.

Anyhow, the few things we did do were fun . . . I'm looking forward to next year already.
