Okay, I am scandalously behind in journal entries - I have the whole month of May to account for, practically . . . and I will, but first the New York Times winning headline of the week:

Bush Overstated Evidence on Iraq, Senators Report
By MARK MAZZETTI and SCOTT SHANE
The 170-page report accuses President Bush and other top officials of repeatedly overstating the Iraqi threat in the emotional aftermath of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Gosh, really? "Repeatedly overstating?" How about,"Trumping up out of thin air?" How about, "One guy with a foreign name is as good as any other guy with a foreign name?"

I know this is a story about a Senate report . . . but the country has gotten awfully darned Orwellian when a bunch of senators spend a bunch of time producing a lengthy report that STATES THE RIDICULOUSLY OBVIOUS, and absolutely nothing happens as a result.

Wry humor is my only defense. Maybe the New York Times is taking that tack, too; who knows?
