Not much going on today so I'm going to write just a few thoughts about things that have been passing through my head over the past few days.

---------------------------------------

I can't believe school starts up again on Monday. I am really excited to be getting back into the swing of things, but that excitement is tempered by the fact that nearly all of the classes I'm taking this semester are basic level, core classes. While I do love the academic setting, I get easily worn out of taking freshman level science and math courses. That's the way it goes I guess

I don't want to say that the summer was waisted, but I didn't really do much of anything this summer. Besides a few trips to Houston, San Antonio, and of course the family reunion in Ohio, I didn't really go anywhere. Besides a few magazines, I didn't really read anything. Besides a few movie reviews, I didn't really write anything.

I'm a believer in yin and yang, action and reaction, so maybe after the semester of turmoil that I had last spring, this summer was a natural break for me. Maybe after all the emotion and shit that I went through last semester, the summer was just what I needed.

Or maybe I'm full of crap, and am just a lazy punk.

I did kind of enjoy just being a lazy ass mo fo though. Although the summer movies weren't spectacular, I did enjoy seeing every single one of them. If I had to rank the summer movies in order of my favorite, off the top of my head it'd go like this:

1. X2
2. Whale Rider
3. The Italian Job
4. Pirates of the Carribean
5. Freddy vs. Jason

After repeated viewings of "The Matrix Reloaded," it tended to grow on me a bit. When looking past all of it's numerous flaws, the movie is pretty entertaining once they get past all that boring Zion crap.

I've noticed that the Geek world is now divided up into three camps where geeks can hang their hats. There is the Star Wars camp, Lord of the Rings camp, and the Matrix camp. To a lesser extent, the new Harry Potter movies might be a fourth camp. But those are more of a book phenomenon. My personal order of how these would rank would be:

1. Star Wars - it's still my favorite after all these years despite itself.

2. Lord of the Rings - These movies are actually better in some ways than the Star Wars movies. They're more epic in scope, the script is better in many instances, and the acting is of course better.

3. The Matrix series - This series had the makings to be the best of the three. Until the second movie came out. The second movie is pretty good, but the directors turned their backs on the first movie. To make a great series, you cannot completely negate the first movie of your series.

I have my flag firmly planted in the Star Wars camp. Even though the Lord of the Rings movies are more epic in scale, it's also important to keep in mind that the Star Wars movies span a longer time frame and are a whole hell of alot more fun than the LOTR movies. You know...I'm going to quit while I'm ahead. Someday soon, I'll devote an entire post to these three movie series.

I have had a lot of quality time with Anya though so I'm not complaining. We are both getting ready to start a new fitness and health regimen. She's starting a new diet called "the South Beach Diet." I think it's kinda like the Buddhist diet in that it's not really a diet but more of a change of eating habits, in the same way that for a lot of people Buddhism isn't a religion but is instead a new way of thinking.

We both have gym memberships so that is going to help out a lot in getting healthy again. I usually like to go to the gym in the morning, but I think that I'll probably go to the gym when Anya goes so we can motivate each other. We'll see I guess.

That's about all I can think of for now. MORE to come later.
