The Young Conservative Club has been out in full force the past few months. I'll never be one to bitch about people assembling and being in groups, but the stuff that they've been tabling about has been kinda lame. At the very least, it's very reactive in nature.

Like during the Vagina Monologues, they had a table set up during the day that supported women gun ownership as the best way to end violence against women. They're main mantra being that if women were in an abusive relationship, all they have to do is pull out their six shooters and wail away. Seeing them that day was laughable in that "are you serious" type of way. I couldn't believe it.

Then a couple of weeks ago, they were outside celebrating "Texas Independence Day." I'm as true blue a Texan as the next gal or feller, but what they were also promoting was to promote good ol fashioned 1950's beliefs. It's a shame they had to disguise it in celebrating the state's day of independence.

And today they're outside holding a "Conservative Coming Out Day" which is a total rip off of GLBT Coming Out day which takes place in October. October 11th to be exact. I think that it's a bit of a shame that they feel the need to poke fun at something that is so important to so many people. It's no big surprise that it's hard to be gay in this country. I mean, the President of the United States is pushing an constitutional amendment to block a human right that everyone should have. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. So to a lot of people, October's "Coming Out Day" is both a literal and figurative way for people to declare their independence to be who they want to be. But from the "Young Conservative" group's eyes, October's "Coming Out Day" is just one more way that our country is becoming more "liberal." So they're out there today, holding their little "White Male Being Slighted Fair" in the guise of conservatives declaring their independence. Which is LAUGHABLE!!! It's as if being conservative in Texas, and the South in general, is something that people hide. Conservatism is practically written in most Texan's genes.

Here is their credo, as written on their website.

If you are tired of the stereotypical "Liberal" college atmosphere...
If you're looking for a group of like minded conservatives...
If you're tired of professors drowning you in leftist rhetoric...
If you hold traditional values and beliefs...
If you want to "Right" your University's wrongs...
