I remarked recently that it's strange that sometimes seeing a cool music video can influence whether I like a song or not. I have a great series of dvd's that has the music videos of Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry, and Chris Cunningham. Fans of Bjork, Beck, Weezer, The Beastie Boys, The White Stripes, Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, and The Pharcyde can proceed to feel jealous now. ;-)

But anyways, on the Michel Gondry dvd, there is a video put to the music of Daft Punk. I'm not a big fan of Daft Punk or that type of techno/house music in general. But seeing the video, and then hearing the cd at a later time, I'm kinda starting to become a fan of Daft Punk. And I think it ties mainly back to viewing the really cool video. Because while watching the wacked out video that Michel Gondry directed, I was also forced to start listening to the song being played as the video chugged along. And now I can't get Daft Punk out of my head.

I don't think I'm making any sense. What I'm trying to say is that it's kinda weird how sometimes music videos can help influence what type of musical styles people can gravitate to.

Any thoughts?

As a side note, Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze are GENIUSES! I can honestly just spend the entire evening watching their music videos over and over. They're not your typical videos where it's just a shot of the band playing in some garage somewhere. Each video has it's own story, it's own themes, and it's own wacked out sense of humor (or purposefully lack thereof). If you're a fan of music videos in the artistic sense, then I think that you should check out the dvd's "The Work of Director Spike Jonze" or "The Work of the Director Michel Gondry." And if you're a Michel Gondry fan, make sure and check out "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" which comes out later this month. Promises to be an excellent movie. If you like Spike Jonze's "Being John Malkovich" and/or "Adaptation" then you should definitely check out his music video collection. Good stuff.
