Hey all,

This post may come as a bit of a shock to most of you but I recently purchased a Glock 9mm pistol. I know, I know, you're probably wondering why Matt the peacenik, non-violence hippy kid felt the need to purchase a weapon to keep in my apartment.

The answer is simple. A couple of weeks ago, on 2 separate occasions, 2 of my friends who live in the same part of town as I do had their apartments broken into. One of my friends had his apartment broken into while he was sleeping. Luckily, the burgular realized that someone was home and quickly departed.

I felt worried that I could eventually be the victim of a break-in or *worse*, so I went to Wal-Mart (of all places) and purchased the one thing that I said I'd never own. You'd be amazed at just how in depth the background check was. I thought that being a former Marine with a clean record would have expedited the process, but I was proven wrong. It took a good week and a half for it finally to get approved, but thankfully nothing prevented me from purchasing it.

I don't know, but I do kinda feel a little bit safer knowing that I have a pistol in a safe next to my book shelf. It gives me that extra bit of assurance at night to know that if someone did break in, I'd be able to protect myself. It is a scary world out there.
