Saw "Ocean's 12" on Friday, and "Lemony Snicket" last night.

"Ocean's 12" may be the greatest heist movie that doesn't really contain much of a heist. I don't want to give anything away, but I was kinda let down by the lack of an elaborate heist. But hey, at least it looked and sounded good. The cast was good, although most of the 12 were under utilized. Soderberg's direction was as good as always. I just wish that there had been more substance. The whole Julia Roberts thing kinda bugged me and pulled me out of the movie a little bit. It was funny, but I felt ripped out of the theater when her moment comes up.

"Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" was a fabulous children's movie. It may be one of the darkest children's movies I've ever seen. Which is fine by me. I was raised on children's movies that were serious mind f*cks ie. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dark Crystal, The Rats of Nimh. In my opinion, the most memorable kids movies are the ones that both scare the crap out of them, but also entertains them.

Jim Carrey was as good (better some may say) as ever. He's really honed his comedic talents, and is now...in the same ballpark as someone like Peter Sellers. I was amazed at how effortlessly he shifted characters in "Lemony Snicket." As is usually the case, Jim Carrey is worth the price of admission in and of himself.

The sets, music, special effects, and child acting were all top notch as well. Definitely a must see.
