Last Names!

I had a teacher one time pass out one of those chain e-mails that talked about where last names come from. For example, if your last name is Miller, your ancestors were probably Millers back in some old school European village. Same applies to someone whose last name is Smith. At one time, their ancestors were probably smiths by trade.

But then I got to wondering what about the names below. What did the below people's ancestors do, or what was physically noticeable, to get such names?

Peniston

Dickinson

Hooker

Gaskill - sorry ;-)

Tushman

Wood

Pitts

Gasman

Long

Bush

and the list goes on and on...
