Anya and I ended our 2 month movie drought by taking in "The Science of Sleep" at the Alamo Drafthouse last night.

As I said earlier, it had been two months since I had been to a movie, so going back to the Drafthouse made me realize that I had missed going to the movies. There's nothing quite like going into a crowded theater and laughing at a movie along with 100 other people.

As much as I love well made television, nothing beats the communal experience one gets at the movies.

As for the movie itself, it was brilliant. It is now clear that Michel Gondry is one of the few visionary directors around. With "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," his brilliant music videos, "Dave Chappelle's Block Party," and now "The Science of Sleep" under his belt, I am no convinced that Michel Gondry will be a director that I'm paying due attention to.

If I have one complaint with the movie, it's that the plot is relatively thin and simple. Don't get me wrong, it has an engaging story, yet it's a relatively simple story of a man and a woman, as eccentric as they both are, falling in love with one another.

Michel Gondry has a brilliant understanding of dreams and how they should be interpreted. It's really hard to describe this movie, because so much of it takes place in his dream world, yet the movie has enough dialogue about what's going on that I never really felt lost.

All I can say, is that if you enjoy dreams and want to see an artistic take on what dreams are and what they mean, go see this movie.
