LOST 3.4

I absolutely loved last night's LOST episode. It was (by far?) the single most intense episode of LOST that I've seen. It's more intense than the two season finales of season 1 and a LOT more intense than both the Henry Gale/Hatch episodes and the Sayid torturing Sawyer episode.

I was really ambivalent about Sawyer's season 2 episodes, especially his flashback scenes, but his season 3 episode was simply brilliant. His flashback was a con on top of a con on top of a con, with a potential con layed out by his ex-girlfriend. Is the daughter really his? And like all truly great LOST flashbacks, it fed directly into what was going on with "the Others" conning Sawyer.

So up until now, the Other's intentions are still unclear, though with the conclusion of last night's episode, I'm leaning towards the side that they may actually be "the good guys." Or at least, they're the good guys in how they see themselves.

LOST is truly brililant if for nothing else than the way they set you up to expect one thing, and then give you another. Or they'll set you up to not like certain characters, only to reveal their motives and pasts, which explain why they are the way that they are. I'm starting to get that impression with "the Others." Don't get me wrong, they're not completely benevolent, yet you can kind of tell that they may be doing horrible things as long as it serves a higher purpose.

I liked Desmond's scenes, as short as they were, but I can't say that I truly liked Charlie's reaction of what happened. I like Charlie, but as of now, he really isn't adding much to the overall story. The season has been great so far, with all the flashbacks and island happenings being REALLY intense, that I'm interested to see if Charlie's storyline get the royal treatment as well.

I'm officially swearing off Spoilers. I knew that there'd be another island at the end of the episode last night, and I know something about the next two episodes that I wish I didn't know, so I'm not going to read anymore...we'll see if this grand experiment works.

I'm yet again thoroughly impressed with how much attention to detail the writers of the show put into each and every scene. I loved the scene where they're transporting Jack in front of Sawyer and Kate's cages. The sirens...the hooded mask...only on LOST. Or the scene where Benry kills the bunny...That was a really intense scene, with the whole Pulp Fiction-esque shot to the heart.

The next two episodes look REALLY intense. As the preview hinted, "the island's growing restless," which I'm predicting to mean another major character meeting their demise. Should be interesting and intense.

So yeah, I think season 3 is the best season that they've had...so far. There's still room to fall, but they've really amped things up. I can't wait for the next two episodes.
