The San Antonio Spurs championships have come in

1999

2003

2005

and after last night's series ending win against Utah, the Spurs will play for their fourth in 2007.

Anya's thrilled. She keeps asking me if the Spurs are my team or not. The Rockets will always be my team, but I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this Spurs team for the past decade. They're a modest bunch, almost annoyingly so, but their play is anything but. When they have you down, they want to put you out for good. They have that killer instinct that says you take a team out when you have them against the wall.

They will face either Detroit or Cleveland in the next round. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Detroit to win the East, but Cleveland is playing extremely well right now. Most SA fans would prefer a Cleveland/Spurs match up, since a Detroit/Spurs match up would be a lot more of a grind. But at this point, I'm sure that the Spurs don't care who they face. They are playing with an extreme level of confidence and feel they match up well with both of the East teams.

Win or lose, the Spurs making the Finals puts them into a fairly elite category. Their dominance over the past 10 years can no longer be denied and called a fluke.
