How's this for a blast from the past? You almost have to love how full of self-importance HBO was and continues to be. I've been thinking about this a lot in the Obamafied world that we now live in, but greatness is sometimes something that can be claimed. But once it's claimed, it has to be earned and kept.

I mean, check out this ad below. If you really break this introduction down, HBO's placing their importance at no higher place than being willed into existence by God himself. If HBO had of sucked out of the gate, it would have been a flameout of epic proportions. But they didn't flame out and they've lived up to their own hype through 30 years of television excellence.

But like a lot of truly excellent things, HBO is pretty damn full of itself.

But if there's one thing HBO has always been great at, it's making even the most mundane programming look like must see television, or whatever HBO is calling itself since it's "not tv."
