My Monday just got crunchier, thanks to a software glitch that means I can't do any more work on project A tonight. On the other hand, it now means I can whale away at project B, which needs to be delivered today as well.

I also had hopes for putting in a thousand words or so on project C, but the need for sleep is going to overtake me before I get to it. I took an extended nap this afternoon but still feel depleted.

This being an adult requires so damned much maintenance sometimes. It's a good thing there are plenty of pleasures that come with it:

* the Best Birthday Ever is still going strong -- I received an e-card this morning from a friend who'd purchased a share of a heifer in my honor. This fills me with much glee.

* cooked a shrimp and zucchini tikka masala for lunch.

* walking through the neighborhood with the BYM, which took us past lots of roses and a friendly dog. Dinner was enlivened by one of the bar's semi-regulars, a thin man who sat himself at our table with a pair of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and proceeded to ramble periodically about bloodshed over poppies and other concerns.

* the real reason the BYM lured me outside was to go get ice cream at Pied Piper Creamery. This is the place with flavors like "Minty Python"; half of the ones listed on today's board seemed to be related to Gilligan's Island. (I got a cone of "Some Like It Hot" - chocolate with spices mixed in.)

* listening in on some between-services rehearsing (particularly of a nifty-sounding four-hands-piano part), and talking with a friend about preaching/priorities/controversies.

The morning was tough on a number of people at church, one of our members having passed away at 6 a.m. after a hard fight with cancer. In addition to his roles as a stay-at-home father to his children and as a farmer, S. was also a scuba instructor. This morning, in front of his memorial candle, someone placed a "diver down" flag.
