...or that just made me laugh:

  • Browsing through my copy of Dance Ink, an anthology of dance photographs published back in 1997. It includes classics such as Annie Leibowitz's portrait of Darci Kistler sitting on Peter Martins's lap, or the one of Rob Bessemer carrying Mikhail Baryshnikov (both shirtless) on a beach. Every now and then I think about putting it in the to-sell pile, and then I get caught by something: this time it was photographs of Alexandre Proia by Andrew Eccles and K.C. Bailey. My, what a handsome man.

  • My own Beautiful Young Man has been sick. Not too sick, however, that he couldn't appreciate the very low-cut dress I wore last night. :-)

  • The Nashville Shakespeare Festival plans to celebrate Shakespeare's birthday with "The Biggest Balcony Scene Ever." Hee!

  • Nice to see Tomas Berdych transcending his history of choking to beat both Federer and Verdasco.

  • Love this bit from Andy Roddick:

IT: Another person that's pretty important in your life is a guy named Federer. If it weren't for him, you might have a trophy or two more?

AR: It crosses your mind, but it isn't something I obsess about. I get a lot of that from Joe-shmos: "Federer owns you." But if you were compared to the best person that's ever done what you do, you probably wouldn't match up favorably. I have a lot of respect for Roger and the way he goes about his business. It would be a lot harder for me if I was losing to someone who didn't respect the sport. What are you going to do? Next time I go out, I'm going to try as hard as I can again.

Aside from Andy complimenting Roger, I think this stood out for me because I went out for drinks with four other musicians Tuesday night -- and Wednesday morning, it struck me that I hadn't been overly bothered about the fact that I was the least-accomplished of the five. I mean, I shouldn't be giving it a second thought: I'm not a career musician, and even if I were, it'd be apples vs. oranges. But that wouldn't have stopped me from seething with jealousy and self-recrimination not too long ago, and it was nice to have a moment of feeling like I'd gotten past that.

Also, as it happens, I'm singing in the world premiere of a nifty Alleluia. That's the kind of thing I have wanted in my life since I was kid, and it makes me very happy that I'm still getting opportunities to help bring new pieces to life. (The only downside this time is that I need to find a pastel top for the service. The last time I wore a pastel shirt might've been around 1993...)

  • 7x20 published one of my haiku today

  • Twitterzine microcosms made its debut today with a scifaiku by my friend Joanne. (...and they're publishing poems of mine on April 12 and April 22.)

  • The celebration at the Daily Cabal continues:

It is a time of joy, for strangers have landed on Mechaieh.
