One inch of snow = One city gridlocked

One thing I love about living in the south is when we have snow, sleet, or even heavy rain. Or even the hint of any of the above. When that happens, the place shuts down. I got to experience that first-hand last night.

At noon there was a nice flurry of snow that became about an inch, accumulated. The neat thing was, as soon as the snow hit the road, it pretty much turned to ice. By one p.m. the schools were closing and people were leaving work in droves. Me, being smart, stayed there until 3 and decided to leave after the first wave of crazy drivers got off the roads.

I got home at 7:30. Four and a half hours later.

You gotta love it. I was on the interstate, just crawling along, and then once I finally got off onto the side roads, they were covered in a sheet of ice. Awesome.

Luckily I was driving the Ford Esquart '93, which welcomes such paltry challenges as black ice, swerving SUVs, and semi-frozen slush.

So, needless to say, I'm working from home today. And my wife is torturing me by making me and Drew watch the inaugural crap while I work on my laptop. Ugh. But it still beats being in the office! And I even found a wireless connection to "borrow" while I work -- I know it's not mine, because my wireless is busted. It's the little things, I tell you... Later.
