On my way to the Second Empire...

Just a relatively quick note to note the following notes.

"Napoleon Dynamite" is one of the goofiest movies I've seen in a while, and I liked it a lot. I liked how each character had their own personal obsessions. I just hope teenagers in Idaho aren't so anhedonic and affectless.

The movie's essentially plotless, though it does get going a bit on a run for class president, and ends with a quite impressive dance routine. A solo dance routine, I might add. It reminded me that an episodic movie or book has to have excellent, powerful, fun scenes that almost stand on their own, outside the main story.

Another review for "Redemption," this time from Locus and Nick Gevers: "Also quite impressive is 'Redemption, Drawing Near,' in which the US military calls in a Catholic priest to help interrogate aliens who have landed on Earth, apparently seeking refuge, but who remain dangerously inscrutable, expressing a cultural complex requiring deep moral scrutiny."

Nice! Thanks to Elizabeth Bear for typing that in over at her journal -- I have yet to get my dang copy of Locus...

Novel revision s are moving along nicely, though today I woke at 4 when Drew did and didn't go back to sleep. Got up, did some more noodling and tweaking, and got distracted by graphics...

And now it's about time to start the weekend! Almost forgot the Super Bowl was this weekend, but we were able to snag some friends to come over and hang out with us and critique the commercials (and watch the Tar Heels play before the game as well). Fun times.

Tonight, Elizabeth are going out on a Real Live Date. We're celebrating our ten-year "meetaversary." We met at good ol' Tammany Hall in Chapel Hill ten years ago last night, and the past decade has been unbelievable great. We've had some tough times, but the bright times far outshine them. Can't wait to see what the next decades will bring!

To celebrate, we're going to this cool place: Raleigh's Second Empire for dinner tonight. Their kitchen is almost three times as big as our HOUSE. Later!
