Steam-powered writing

I'm running on steam today! It's a good thing I went to bed at a reasonable hour last night (around 10:30 or so). At about 3:30 this morning I was in the bathroom, standing outside the shower with the water turned on as hot as it would go, holding and bouncing Drew in the darkness. We're trying to clear the last bit of croup from his system, and a good ol' steam bath appears to have done the trick.

I think the changing weather here makes his cough and phlegminess (is that a word?) come and go. Just when we think it's all cleared up, he gives a noisy sniffle. Lovely -- welcome to spring in North Carolina, son! All the pollen you can sneeze at. Ugh.

Once he was comfortably back to sleep, I dozed for a bit, then got up around 4:30. My baseball novel has been tugging at me, so I revised another chapter this morning, and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out -- this one has a ten-year-old future Hall-of-Famer named Buck pinch-hitting for the World's All Nations, along with a fight between a Japanese player named Goro and a Mexican player named Buddha. It's all good clean fun, folks!

And the progress-o-meter continues for All Nations Team:

Also, as a warm-up activity this morning, before I dove into revising the baseball novel, I again wrote a quick piece of a scene on the novel blog. All the diverse pieces of the opening two sections are falling into place now, and it's getting pretty fun. I've no idea where it's going, which is a scary change of pace from the baseball novel.

Of interest (probably just to me), the two works-in-progress are both at about the same page as the other:

Wow. And it's only 6:40 a.m. What else will the day bring? Later!
